Phil Taylor (b.1989) began playing the piano at the age of eleven and wrote his first composition at age fifteen. As a composer, Taylor has collaborated with the Willamette Chamber Players and has participated in composition readings with the artists of the Imani Winds, fEARnoMUSIC, NEO Norrbotten and Beta Collide. In 2009 he was awarded a BMI Student Composer Award for Metamorphosis for piano, violin and horn. In the same year, he went abroad to Sweden where he studied with composer Jan Sandström at the Piteå Musikhögskolan. Taylor holds a B.Mus. degree in composition summa cum laude from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where he studied with Dr. John Peel. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in composition at the University of Chicago under the tutelage of Professor Marta Ptaszyńska.
