Born in 1975, Raphaël Cendo studied piano and composition in Paris. At IRCAM he specialized in composition and electronics. In addition he took lessons with Allain Gaussin, Brian Ferneyhough, Fausto Romitelli, and Philippe Manoury.

Cendo has written for ensembles such as L’Itinéraire, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Nouvel Ensemble Modern, Ictus, and MusikFabrik while his work was performed at festivals that include Ars Musica Brussels, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Voix Nouvelles Royaumont, Présences, and Musica Strasbourg. From 2009 until 2011 he lived and worked at the Villa Medici in Rome. Since 2008 he has been teaching composition at the Conservatory of Nanterre.
